'Tis the season to shop, shop, shop, but in this age of spend, and spend more, I am trying to cut back because in the past I'm guilty as charged for buying, buying, buying! A couple weeks ago our pastor preached a great sermon on finances and a few things really struck home.
The average person spends $1000 per Christmas, plus $500 on travel. That is $1500 per person every year.
Also, America consumes 40% of earth's resources. Yikes, kinda shocking considering we take up such a small percentage of the population.
I'm not one who pays full price for anything. Everything from my house, to my car, to my clothes are all purchased on clearance! But it is easy to always want more. It is easy to say, "I saved $20 on these shoes," when in reality I still spent money on something I probably didn't need.
So here comes small change #2:
Sometimes it is hard, but I'm trying to be thankful for what I do have, and more importantly work on being content.
The importance of spending wisely has become a real priority for me, especially since I've had Oliver. This year, Christmas gifts are going to be a little less extravagant, maybe even hand-made. (Sorry to my family who is now reading this!).
Have a Merry Shopping Season, and remember, spend wisely.
